Privacy and data

Where are my maps stored?

On your device, in Smart Mind’s own storage. They are never uploaded. There is no Smart Mind server that holds maps, and no account to link them to.

Does Smart Mind work offline?

Yes. Everything works offline except AI, which needs a connection. Syncing devices needs a Wi-Fi network, but not the internet.

Does it track me?

No. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. If the app crashes, it sends a crash report with technical details only, never what you wrote. You can turn that off in Settings → Your data. See Privacy.

What does AI send?

When you generate a map, your prompt. When you expand a topic, that topic and enough of the map around it to make the suggestions fit. Nothing is stored or used for anything else. See AI.

The free version and Pro

Is the free version a trial?

No. It doesn’t expire. It includes unlimited topics, notes, pictures, checkboxes, cross-links, folders, the outline view and search. The main limits are three maps, one layout and three themes. See Free and Pro.

I have three maps and can’t make a fourth. What can I do?

Delete one you no longer need. Maps in the Trash don’t count. Or upgrade to Pro. Importing and restoring maps always work, even past three.

I bought Pro on another phone. How do I get it here?

Sign in to the same App Store or Google Play account, open the paywall in Smart Mind, and tap Restore purchases.

How do I cancel, or ask for a refund?

Subscriptions and refunds are handled by Apple and Google. Cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, and ask for a refund there too. Smart Mind can’t see or change your payment.

What happens to my maps if I stop paying?

Nothing is lost. Maps stay editable and keep their layout and theme, and you can still export backups. See If your subscription ends.

Sync and backups

Do my maps sync through the cloud?

No. Sync devices Pro copies maps directly between your own devices on the same Wi-Fi network. There’s no server and no account.

Can two people edit the same map?

No. Smart Mind is for one person’s own thinking. You can send someone a copy of a map as a .smartmind file. They get their own copy, and their changes stay with them.

Why don’t my devices see each other?

Both need to be on the same Wi-Fi network with Sync devices open. Some guest and hotel networks block devices from seeing each other. On iPhone and iPad, check that Local Network access is on for Smart Mind. See Sync your devices.

How do I move my maps to a new phone?

With both phones on the same Wi-Fi, use Sync devices Pro. Otherwise, make a backup with Settings → Back up everything Pro, move the file to the new phone, and open it there. Opening a backup is free.

I deleted a map by mistake.

Open Settings → Trash. Deleted maps stay there for 30 days and can be restored with one tap.

Can I undo a sync?

Yes. The report after a sync has Undo this map for any map the sync changed.

Using the app

How do I get a blank topic out of the way?

Tap Done instead of tapping the canvas. It removes the empty topic that return opened. You can also select the topic and tap Delete.

Can I use Smart Mind with a keyboard?

Yes, on a tablet. Tab adds a child, Return a sibling, and ⌘Z undoes. The full list is in Tips and shortcuts.

Which languages does the app support?

English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Português (Brasil), 日本語, 한국어 and 繁體中文. Change it in Settings → Language. Your own maps are never translated.

Can I open maps from other mind map apps?

If the other app can export OPML, yes. Paste it into Import → Paste an outline. You can paste indented text and Markdown lists the same way.

The quickest way is Settings → About → Send feedback. It opens your mail app with the app version and your Support ID already filled in, so a reply can find your purchase without an account. Nothing is sent until you press send.
